As the Coronavirus pandemic continues to disrupt life on a global scale, we’ve yet to understand what our “new normal” will be.

What we do know, however, is that the virus could potentially impact people’s holiday plans for some time to come.

For this reason, the Compass Travel Insurance Policy will cover you should you need to cancel your booking due to coronavirus related illness or compulsory quarantine.

Why do I need Insurance?

As more and more people choose to holiday in the UK the need for Travel Insurance will increase, and while purchasing cover for foreign holidays is commonplace, the need for cover in the UK has been minimal, until recently.

The coronavirus pandemic could potentially impact people’s holiday plans for some time to come and protecting against this, and other potential losses is a good idea in case you have to cancel or cut your trip short.

There are some important things to consider when purchasing Travel Insurance:

  • Travel insurance can be purchased as soon as you’ve booked your holiday, the longer you leave buying insurance then the greater the risk you’ll need to cancel for a reason that would have been covered by insurance.
  • Cancellation and curtailment (cutting short) of your holiday are the main areas that most people will want to protect against however there are many other aspects to the cover such as travel delays, loss or damage to baggage and any accidental damage you may cause to the place you are staying.
  • Check the excess levels on your policy, some policies have different excess levels of each section and some that are payable if you claim under multiple sections of the policy.

FAQs

Why are there three different levels of cover to choose from?

We’ve created 3 levels of cover to cater for the fact that holidays in the UK come in different shapes and sizes and therefore you need to tailor your cover to your needs.

For example if you need a high level of cancellation or curtailment cover then the premier tier might be better suited to your needs.

Is there any limit on when I can take the policy out?

You can take out a policy when you book your holiday right up to the day you are due to travel or at any time in between.

Do you cover sports and activities?

Yes we do, however certain sports and activities such as Paintball, Go-Karting and Sailing are excluded under personal liability cover and these are detailed in the sports and activities section of the policy wording.

Are there a minimum number of nights my holiday needs to last for in order to be covered?

Cover under our policy is subject to a trip that is a minimum of 2 nights.

I’m travelling to a park in France, can I take out cover?

No our policy only covers holidays in the UK.

I live outside the UK but have booked a holiday on a park in the UK, can you cover me?

Unfortunately not, we can only cover you if you legally reside in the UK and have a residential address you can refer to.

Does the policy cover national lockdowns?

No the Covid-19 related cover is for illness or personal quarantine related losses, any national lockdowns or regional quarantine is not covered under our policy.

The product states that the cover is per traveller, what does that mean?

It means that the benefits listed in the table of cover in your policy wording, or in our marketing materials and online, are for each person travelling on the policy.

So for example under our Premier cover you get £1,500 for cancellation, so a family of 4 has cover for 4 x £1,500 which is an overall amount of £6,000.

Do you cover pre-existing medical conditions?

Any claims for losses as a result of a pre-existing medical condition are not covered unless they are listed as a waived condition in your policy wording.

I’m going on holiday with a group of friends, can you cover us?

Yes, but you’ll need to buy separate policies as we only cover individuals, couples or families, not groups.

I have more than one UK holiday booked this year, can you offer an annual policy?

At the moment our policy covers single trips, so you’d need to take out a policy for each of your UK holidays. It has been designed to be sold alongside a booking which is why it is designed that way.

The park I booked my holiday on told me I had to take out insurance, is that true?

No, travel insurance is not a mandatory insurance. Although we recommend insuring your holiday, you are not legally required to do so.
